Animal dump

I'm trying to figure out what to sculpt for my animal sculpting assignment, so I went through a range of animals/styles to see what fit best. 

Holy flapjacks, Batman!

Sorry for the lack of updates. School started and things got a little crazy after that. School is awesome, by the way. I love the animation classes I'm taking. I'd just like to say how completely excited and overjoyed I am that I'm in the program! Here's to the next four most excellent years.

Okay, art time. (Not to be confused with Adventure Time)

Watercolor painting. It was an activity for an awesome book called Prepare to Board. The prompt was "I must."

Final for story boarding. I still have some line work to rework on this guy, but I'm uploading him for now. This is Benny, the socially handicapped rooster. He was raised by ducks and is surrounded by ducks, so he naturally has a social-phobia to work out. He can't fly or swim, but he's the largest and easily the most beautiful animal at the pond. He believes that he's a misfit and hates talking to other animals for fear of saying something completely ridiculous. He's insecure, shy, and painfully tries his best to fit in. About the only thing he's good at is being kind and crowing, which the other animals hate. Poor guy.

Okay, so Hawk drew this fabulous picture of me just because she's awesome like that. I was so pleasantly surprised! So I decided to draw her a picture too. Here she flying on the back of a hawk gryphon. Inspired by the comics Herobear and The Kid, which I absolutely adore.

Remember this guy? He's my character, turned into a giant bird creature. Because he can do that.

Renegade Beaver and art

Pardon for the offense I may have caused Twilight fans last post. I wasn't bashing you, just the books. If you're a fan of the books, then all the more power to you. They're just not my cup of tea. But Kenny and the Dragon came out and it's wonderful! (psst, Rachel!  You would love the illustrations in this book. They reminded me of your art).

You know how some people are just naturally pleasant? That was this guy on the bottom of this page. He just gave this aura of cuddliness.

College life, Sketchdump, Wall E

School started Monday, and I started my college career with Figure Drawing and English. Figure drawing is fun just because I get to spend three consecutive hours drawing, which is not only refreshing but entertaining as well, and a nice break from the harsh homework schedule of English. Not that art escapes me in that class either. My old high school habit of doodling and drawing all over my notes is starting to creep back into my hand, and my notes are a mess. Funny story: I was writing my notes with a red pen and every time I set it down on my desk, it would roll to reveal that it was in fact a U of U pen. What are the odds? I'm glad I didn't get jumped by a die-hard cougar fan. But it's weird walking on the campus as an actual student and not a high school intern. I'm still animating, but I wish I were able to jump right into the program and start learning all I can so I can start to become a better artist. Anywho, I've sketched a bit to see if this is possibly coming true, as I hope to be able to add to the amazing artists in the animation program this fall.

 

Also, I saw Wall E and it was fabulous. More than that. It had some of the most gorgeous character animation I've seen since the classic Disney movies. The story was brilliant and I even cried at some of the scenes. I've found a new Pixar favorite. And the score by Thomas Newman is retro and beautiful simultaneously, which is an interesting combination that he pulled off brilliantly. 

I highly recommend going to see it!

Artist's Block

I feel like I haven't had much inspiration for drawing lately. It seems like I keep drawing the same thing over and over again, and I hate that because I know that's not improving at drawing over all but improving at drawing one thing and one thing only. I've been sketching a lot, but I haven't done a final illustration for about a month now and I'm getting rather bored. It would seem as if  I have slipped into another block and it's slowing down my art. What do all of you do if you get into an artist's block, any suggestions? Or what do you do when you need inspiration? What do I need to do with my art to take it to the next level?

A Plethora of Sketches

Got my scanner fixed. Just a sketchdump that accumulated over the last couple of weeks. Most of these were drawn while listening to some new music I just recently got, which would explain the melancholy feel. 

I will highly congratulate whomever can guess the soundtrack that I was listening to.
